Board of Supervisors The Board of Supervisors consists of four members who are elected every four years. The Board represents the citizens of Greensville County in the formulation of policies and directions, to approve levels of taxation and expenditure, to oversee the operation of County government and to enact all legislation that is necessary to achieve these goals. Board of Zoning Appeals The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is a quasi-judicial body established under state law to provide relief in special cases where the exact application of the terms of the ordinance would be unduly restrictive and cause a hardship. Its function is to hear and decide upon the interpretation and the application of the provisions of the zoning ordinance in these cases. Although the board has certain discretionary powers in making its decisions, these powers have definite limits. The board must always abide by and comply with the powers granted to it by the local zoning ordinance and the state enabling act. Electoral Board This Board consists of three members who are appointed by the Circuit Court. They are to provide for the mechanics for registration of qualified citizens and places and means of voting for all elective offices. Record and report the results of all elections in the manner directed by law. To certify the candidacy of persons in local elections and to receive and record all reports and forms required for any candidate. Other than meeting on an as called basis, and Electoral Board meets the first week in February as mandated by the State, and also the first week in March for an organizational meeting. Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority The Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority consists of four members, being the Greensville County Board of Supervisors. The Authority primary functions are 1) to eliminate and prevent the environmental conditions that are not conductive to good health and 2) to provide and distribute all of the potable water necessary to service the citizens of Greensville County. Meetings are held on the first and third Monday at the conclusion of the Board of Supervisors Meeting in the Board Room of the Greensville County Government Center. Greensville/Emporia Airport Commission The Greensville/Emporia Airport Commission is charged with the operation and maintenance of the municipal airport. The Commission meets on an as called-basis. Greensville/Emporia Welfare Board The Greensville/Emporia Local Welfare Board is a five-member District Board, consisting of three County representatives and two City representatives. This Board has the responsibilities of administering the Social Services Programs as set forth in the Code of Virginia, subject to the rules and regulations of the State Board of Social Services. These programs include benefit programs such as Aid to Dependent Children, Medicaid, Food Stamps Auxiliary Grants, General Relief, State and Local Hospitalizations and the Fuel Assistance Program. Industrial Development Authority The Authority is a political sub-division of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with power to acquire pertinent real estate, and to hold , own, improve, maintain, lease, and dispose of commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities within the commonwealth and to finance the same by issuance of revenue bonds of the Authority. Planning Commission Planning Commission members should be familiar with general planning principles. They are responsible to the Board of Supervisors on all matters as assigned. The Planning Commission advises the Board on issues of planning and community development and makes recommendations on all zoning matters. Duties and purposes of the Planning Commission are further outlined in the Code of Virginia in sections 15.2-2210 through 15.2-2221. Meetings are held each month on the second Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the Board Room of the Greensville County Government Center. School Board The School Board consists of four County members and two City members as directed by contract dated December 11, 1980. They are to provide a comprehensive system of educational services designed to provide the individual skills, attitudes, values, and understanding necessary in society.

Southside Regional Jail Authority The Authority has been created to enhance the protection of the citizens of the member jurisdictions and the surrounding communities by the acquisition, construction, equipping, maintenance and operation of a new regional jail facility. Transportation Safety Commission Members of the Transportation Safety Commission identify traffic safety problems throughout the County and bring them to the attention of the Highway Department or other responsible agencies, obtain funding for traffic safety programs, and advise the Board of Supervisors on matters of traffic safety.
