About Us

Emporia Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 20,000 people living in an area of 302 square miles. It operate out of one fire station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

The Emporia Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves the citizens of the City of Emporia and County of Greensville (VA).

The Department was chartered in 1935. The department also has had a successful Cadet firefighter program since 1985.  The Cadet program has given youth from 15 to 18 years of age the chance to work and train to become firemen.  The cadet program is averaging about five to six cadets each year.

The majority of our firefighters possess Firefighter I and above within the first two years of service.  The department also requires you to have an annual physical and you must pass the physical

Our annual call volume generally exceeds 400 runs.

The department has moved into a new  $3 million dollar station as of October 1997. The new station will be a great asset to the firefighters and to the community. In 1997 the Departments Average firefighter per call was 14.
